The Impact of Meditation in Community - Flipbook - Page 6
Participants
85 people who are registered to receive invitations to one or both of our weekly online
practice sessions completed the survey. Five people participated in an in-depth interview.
Half of the participants signed up for an online practice session hosted by The School of
Contemplative Life in 2023, 2022 or before. The other half signed up during 2024.
About 50% of participants had a regular practice before signing up to our online group.
Of the participants who did have an existing regular practice, 55% practiced in a Christian
tradition (mostly by themselves as opposed to in a group). 45% reported a 8secular9
practice (i.e. mindfulness via an app), Transcendental Meditation or an Eastern spiritual
practice. Again, most participants described a solitary practice.
Why did participants first sign up for an online session?
The majority were seeking a greater connection to God/the Divine or more inner
peace, often as an antidote to the stress of modern life. Regardless of their reason,
99% of participants said this had helped them with whatever it was that had
motivated them to join.
91% of people who signed up in 2023, 2022 or before said that their participation
in the practice community helps them to sustain their own practice.
